Bath Amphibians Triathlon Club

As the year has come and almost gone the club built the anticipation to the Christmas dinner and what fun, antics and gossip would form the evening’s entertainment.  An excellent venue chosen and organized by the Side of Michaely at the Bath Boatman followed a few cheeky pre-drinks at the Pultney Arms to warm the cockles.  Dinner was tres bien with a three course meal which for me was goats cheese, lamb, and cheesecake.  All I am sure tasted fantastic but I don’t really have much recollection about the cheesecake…

Between main and dessert our wonderful member lozza but also defector next year to BADTri…(he will be back)…presented the ‘Simon Harwood’ Du-a-duo awards for the year.  This is for the best percentage increase in time over the five club races for our aquathlon races over the summer.  Topping the standings this year for the boys was the mighty cutter ‘Niel Cutting’ with around a 8% increase, and for the girlies Jo Mursel pulled it in for the third year running – awesome!

Once the dessert was underway the spot prizes for the year were also presented amongst which the coveted ‘ultimate amphib of the year award’.  Who would be able to step up and take the crown from current ultimaters…the mighty Ken and Monica…ultimate to the end last year by partying till the birds came up…

Best Random New Member – Kate ‘Pup’ Hocking, who received a superwoman cooking apron for her efforts in baking chocolate brownies for her first training session, swimming at Hungry Farm without a wettie, and proclaiming to the world and the marshals at the national relays that she had started a fight in the swim…

Most Improved Ampib – Alex Shipp (speedboat), who received the amphibs sofa award and a well earned feet up relax session over Christmas for his efforts to gain qualification for the age group world in the kangaroo land earlier in the year.

Amphib Moment – Swanage Tri – where not only did we have around 15 representing, getting PB’s and getting in the medals, but where the camaraderie shone through, and when Andy Duttonator got knocked off his bike the way the club pulled together to sort him out.  Collecting the prize was Andy who received a blow up road cone hat for his helmet so it doesn’t happen again.

Ultimate Amphib – Kezzler McGawley – Who received some chocolates and jellies in a variety of shapes from Ann Summers….mmm..  Not only has Kerry got involved and helped immensely with the running of the club, but also represents, smashes it up on race day but also manages to party till her boobs hurt.

Jimmer hit the decks at around 11pm, the tables were cleared and some sweet disco tunes were mixed together, nice one James, loving your work.

From the boatman a group of around 20 hit Komedia for the Motown funk disco and sweet baby jesus we cut some moves on the dance floor.  Webbo and our miniature Buddha coach Dougolarse were playing catch up as later arrivals and they did well as the crap Break and Russian Cossack dancing commenced.  Annie M floated around the dance floor majestically, Pup danced while actually asleep on her feet and on trying to leave got pinned down and almost received a mascara pair of glasses.  Newish members Glen, Kirstie, Paul, Jenny, Charlie and Katt upped the pace as the drinkies kept flowing and so the extraordinary moves…As the evening came to a close…or the morning started to begin, last years ultimate amphibs in a gloriously drunken way passed the crown to Kezzler at around 2am as they took their leave and Kerry carried on her spinning top impression around the dance floor….superb

Calories were needed at around 3am ish so a kebab, chips and full fat coke hit the lips and we made our way home to the sound of birds tweeting…a great night throughout with great friends

Thanks to all those who helped run the club this year, Mr and Mrs Sidey, K and M, Kezzler, Gavster, Alex, Mikey B, Lozza, Niall, Dazzler (signing coach in Wales)…the list goes on…to those who represented at events…and those who joined the club and are continuing the all inclusive sprit of the club.  Game on for 2010 with Christmas Bells on…big ones
